El japones comenzó  a crear fantasías electrónicas en los finales 60. Y fue con el auge de los "Switched on Bach" de Walter (por entonces) Carlos, que decidió  seguir una senda similar. Pionero de los primeros modulares, sintetizadores-prototipo y sonidos más  avanzados del momento. Sus adaptaciones de música  clásica son tan especiales, que entran dentro de su propia creatividad. Stravinsky, Sibelius, Mussorgsky, Holsr, Debussy.....todos suenan inequívocamente a Tomita cuando los moldea y procesa por sus instrumentos tótem de síntesis. 

Este es uno de mis discos favoritos del maestro. Por música  y por tema a tratar. Las películas  de temática cósmica y los libros de Von Daniken, estaban pegando fuerte por entonces.

El catálogo de sonidos expresado en esta obra, en plenos 70, es apabullante. El texto que acompaña al álbum, escrito por él  mismo, es suficientemente explicativo de lo complicado que resultaba en aquellos días crear una obra como ésta. En la que adapta sobre todo piezas de Prokofiev (también  de Sibelius y el "Encuentros en la Tercera Fase" de John Williams), para dar vía libre a su inabarcable imaginación musical. El equipo instrumental aquí  desplegado es, simplemente, lo mejor y más  avanzado para 1978. Moogs y  Roland en todas sus gamas. Secuenciadores, ecualizadores, Korg Vocoder (el primero?...), Eventide,  Hohner Clavinet, Mellotron con Leslie Speaker....Todo un arsenal analógico  para "Una Fantasía Musical de Ciencia Ficción " como subtitula el álbum.

Con títulos  como "Children Playing in Agharta, the deep und", basada en el Allegro Marcato  del Segundo Movimiento de la Sinfonía 5 de Prokofiev. Insisto en que si no nos dijeran que esto está extraído de piezas de clásica  (en su mayor parte), no nos enteraríamos. El aporte propio de Tomita es inmenso. En un personal estilo donde el romanticismo y las cadencias grandiosas van ensamblados naturalmente con electrónica futurista. En más  de un momento puede recordar a otros grandes de la electrónica  romántica,  The Enid.

Otra característica de este álbum es su portentoso sonido analógico : " Este álbum se diferencia de mis otros álbumes en que el Master fue grabado en cinco pistas. Idealmente, debería  ser oído a través  de cinco altavoces, cuatro en el rectángulo convencional, y el quinto suspendido en el centro, como una pirámide sónica ".

Sus pasajes eran-son-serán  de una profunda belleza descriptiva. Recuerdo vivamente a mi hermana en su adolescencia, pillandome la cinta de "Firebird" y usando su "Una Noche en el Monte Pelado" de Mussorgsky para sus invocaciones satánicas  (!!!???). Esto es real.

Otro grande que nos deja con más de 40 discos llenos de onirismo electrónico  ensoñador. Descanse en paz en sus reinos de fantasía.
