These recordings of "Ladies Of The Road" are from the very first session for the "Islands" album on (insert date) - and were not recorded at Command Studios, as with the rest of the album, but at Islands Studios. They are at the faster tempo, which can be heard in contemporary live recordings, before the band settled on the better known tempo and format.
All the original studio sessions from 1971 are being made available by download in 2021 to satisfy recent changes to copyright laws: All recordings must be released within the fiftieth year of their recording in order to continue to enjoy copyright protection. So, these have been released to the DGMLive faithful – and are thus protected!
The exact recording dates have not been annotated on the original tapes. DGMLive has therefore assigned various session dates throughout the period in 1971, when the album was known to have been largely recorded.

They form part of the studio sessions and unreleased recordings from the "Islands" sessions at Command Studios in August ,September and October 1971. The album "Islands", engineered by Andy Hendrikson, was largely created in the studio, and featured numerous overdubs.

The various takes are, however, spread across three tapes, interspersed with other recordings, which must have happened on different days. We have therefore presented "Prelude" in these three distinct parts, as they occur on the master tapes. These takes of "Prelude" appear with two early takes of "Islands".
