Este juego, aunque genial, En su mayoría son fragmentos, excepto el disco 3 y el disco MP3, que están dominados por piezas completas, demos y pistas en vivo. El disco MP3 es en realidad el mejor de los cuatro. En cuanto a ese disco, se reproducirá en casi todos los reproductores de DVD, y muchos de los nuevos reproductores de CD de audio también reproducirán discos MP3. No tengo una computadora (escribo esto desde el trabajo) por lo que mi reproductor de DVD es la única forma en que puedo escuchar el disco MP3. La caja dice que no se debe reproducir el disco MP3 en ningún sistema de audio, pero o la tecnología ha avanzado mucho desde 2004, o los fabricantes de alguna manera están cubriendo sus partes traseras, porque reproduje todo, imágenes y todo, directamente en mi DVD barato.

Primero hubo cuatro álbumes de fusión con guitarras, luego un par de trabajos de piano y batería con Patrick Moraz, y ahora comienza la tercera fase de la carrera en solitario de BRUFORD: jazz avant con cuernos. "Bill Bruford Eartworks" no es una desviación completa de su trabajo anterior: las melodías ganadoras y la percusión exótica aún juegan un papel fundamental en la música, pero la presencia de dos compositores que tocan trompas (Iain Ballamy y Django Bates) abre el puerta a muchas nuevas avenidas musicales. BRUFORD todavía agrada a las dos mitades de su mente musical, psuedointelectual e iconoclasta en un momento (como en el "Thud" de apertura, que recuerda un acto anterior de EG, The Lounge Lizards), sentimental y notablemente accesible al siguiente ("Making A Song And Bailar"). Ballamy y Bates son hallazgos reales, este último una doble amenaza para tocar la trompa (por ejemplo, "Up North") y el piano ("Pressure"), dejando los encantadores solos a la pequeña variedad de saxofones del primero. En ese entorno, el bajista acústico Mick Hutton se convierte en una ocurrencia tardía, y en cuanto a BRUFORD, bueno, no estoy seguro de qué está haciendo aquí algunas veces. Su obra está estampada en todas las pistas como "My Heart Declares A Holiday" y "Bridge of Inhibition", pero el virtuoso baterista es un virtual ausente de "It Needn't End In Tears" y "Up North".

Quizás BRUFORD estaba adoptando el papel del empresario del jazz, dejando que los jóvenes turcos se esforzaran por ganar terreno musical mientras él se retiraba a un segundo plano, su percusión más la de un ministro sabio que de un dictador voluntarioso. Si bien una participación más audible del Sr. B solo habría hecho que sus fanáticos lo quisieran más, el hecho es que "El movimiento de tierras de Bill Bruford" es una aventura agradable, a menudo emocionante, independientemente de quién conduzca los caballos. Incluso si su mayor contribución es sacar a la luz buena música, es algo por lo que estar agradecido.
