Paul Desmond (nacido Paul Emil Breitenfeld, 25 de noviembre de 1924-30 de mayo de 1977) fue un saxofonista y compositor de jazz alto estadounidense, mejor conocido por su trabajo con el Dave Brubeck Quartet y por componer el mayor éxito de ese grupo, "Take Five". Fue uno de los músicos más populares de la escena del jazz cool.

Además de su trabajo con Brubeck, dirigió varios grupos y colaboró con Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Jim Hall y Ed Bickert. Después de años de tabaquismo empedernido y mala salud, Desmond sucumbió a un cáncer de pulmón en 1977 después de una gira con Brubeck.
